Being a Business Owner isn’t easy! You need to stay self-motivated at all times, because you are the drive behind your company. As you know, this can be especially tough after the Holidays! After enjoying so much good food, great presents, and family time it can be hard to get back in gear. Ever wonder how to kickstart your energy as a business owner after the holidays? Check out some tips below that put a pep in my step just when I need it most!
Make a List
I am the type of person that has to have a checklist. When I tick off each box for a task that I’ve completed, I feel a sense of accomplishment. This motivates me to continue and strive to complete one list and then to start the next. This is a useful tool not just for everyday business, but as a way to relieve lots of stress around the holidays.
Organization is Key
This leads me to this point; bring all outstanding projects and tasks to a good stopping place before the New Year. Returning to a clean desk for a fresh start is a great feeling. I know for me personally, when I completed everything I needed to do off my list, I am better able to enjoy my time off with my family. I also feel refreshed and ready-to-go when I returned from holiday break. The more organized you are, the better you will feel, and the more you set yourself up for success. Besides, this is one less thing that you will have to worry about when creating your back in the office to-do list after the holidays!
Routines are Your Friend
My next tip is something we all know, but hey, a little refresher doesn’t hurt from time to time! In order to be successful, you must have a routine that you can stick to. I completely understand that “off days” mean you watch TV and stay in bed all day (trust me I’ve done it too). But in reality, staying on a routine is one of the major keys to success for the small business owner.
Routine is never more important than right after the holiday season. While it can be fun to let your kids stay up until midnight and sleep in until 12 noon, try to be mindful of a slightly more structured schedule. In fact, you can be more aware of routine during the holidays this year which will help with the readjustment in the New Year. For instance, just because you have family visiting from out of town, it doesn’t mean you can’t take an hour or two out of your day for yourself. Routine will only help and benefit you in the future as you readjust.
For me personally, it took me a long time to understand the long-term benefits of routine. Once I grasped the concept, it didn’t bother me to take time off for holidays or vacations because when I came back, I felt at ease. Structure gives me the confidence that I can handle anything when I get back to the office! Finding balance between work and life is key, and everyone must find their own regimen for staying motivated after the holidays. These are a few tips that have worked for me, and that I believe are great tools for success.
